Welcome – and welcome back – to UVA! To celebrate the beginning of the school year, University Programs Council (UPC) is thrilled to announce our full calendar of Welcome Week events.
Friday, August 19
Amp Up the Arts
9 p.m. to 12 a.m. midnight
Amphitheater (Rain Site: Student Activities Building)
Kick off Welcome Week with free food from Carpe Donuts, Kona Ice, and Ben & Jerry's; free crafts such as tie dye, flower crowns, henna, photo mugs, and more!
Saturday, August 20
J. Cole feat. Bas and Cozz
Doors Open: 8 p.m.
Student Standby Line Opens: 6 p.m.
John Paul Jones Arena
Get hyped for UPC's biggest concert yet! Upperclassmen – if you didn’t receive a ticket through the lottery, be sure to come to the student standby line for a chance at a free ticket!
After Hours at the AFC
9 p.m. to 2 a.m.
Aquatic & Fitness Center
Sponsored by IM Rec and UVA Dining
Celebrate the beginning of the year with free food and activities at the AFC! Satisfy your taste buds with cotton candy, funnel cake, smoothies, pizza, and a chocolate fountain. Activities will include a giant basketball challenge obstacle course, a virtual graffiti wall, inflatable Twister, mini golf, and more!
Sunday, August 21
First Year Movie Night – Captain America 3: Civil War
9 p.m. to 12 a.m. midnight
O'Hill Field (Rain Site: Newcomb Theater)
Relax with a free outdoor screening of Captain America 3: Civil War.
Monday, August 22
5:15 to 6:45 p.m.
Scott Stadium (Rain Site: Student Activities Building)
Come out to Scott Stadium for food, games, and an official welcome from the UVA football team.
Wednesday, August 24
8 to 10 p.m.
The Lawn (Rain Date: Wednesday, August 31)
Gather on the Lawn for one of UVA's oldest traditions, a showcase of UVA's incredibly talented a capella groups.
Thursday, August 25
9 to 10 p.m.
Old Cabell Hall
Come see Mike Birbiglia perform stand up comedy live in Old Cabell Hall! Free tickets will be available in the PAC (Newcomb Hall, Room 164) beginning at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, August 23. Tickets are first come, first served. Student ID is required (only one ticket per ID).
Friday, August 26
6 to 8 p.m.
Amphitheater (Rain Site: Chem 402)
Enjoy one of the hallmarks of Welcome Week and watch your friends be hypnotized by Tom Deluca. Student performance groups will open the show at 6 p.m. with comedy routines, dance performances, and more!
With the exception of the J. Cole concert, all of our events are free and open to the entire student body.
