Dear Parents:

I hope this note finds you well on this first day of spring. The University's 2017 football schedule has been finalized, along with the date for Family Weekend, which is set for November 3-5. Since a significant number of parents tell us they are disappointed that Family Weekend does not include a football game, I am pleased to announce a change for the coming 2017-18 academic year. In addition to the many other activities taking place that weekend, the UVA football team will be playing Georgia Tech at home on Nov. 4 (time to be announced closer to the date).

Season football tickets are currently on sale, and single-game tickets to the UVA-Georgia Tech game can be purchased now by parents for Family Weekend. These reserved seat tickets, which are available in advance of the public single-game sale, are $28 and can be purchased online. Your son or daughter may also purchase a student guest ticket beginning April 17 if that is preferable. Student guest tickets provide general admission seating within designated student seating sections and on the grass hillside behind the north end zone. Student guest tickets for the game against Georgia Tech are $28 each. Additional information is available on the Virginia Sports website.

Family Weekend begins on Friday and includes a broad range of activities, including open classes, student housing fairs, concerts, special tours, and more. On Friday afternoon, Nov. 3, at 2 p.m. in John Paul Jones Arena, the University will celebrate Fall Convocation and the awarding of Intermediate Honors to third-year students. Another popular event, the Third-Year Ring Ceremony, takes place late Friday afternoon following Fall Convocation. Local accommodations always fill quickly, so I encourage you to make hotel reservations soon if you do not live nearby and plan to stay for the full weekend of activities. A list is available on the Family Weekend website.

To give you a sense of the wide range of activities that take place during Family Weekend, please take a look at the 2016 schedule. Many similar activities will be taking place this fall.

I hope to see you and your family at Family Weekend in November, if not before.

Warm regards,

Allen W. Groves
