You are receiving this reminder notice because you have been identified as a new or returning student who has yet to take action under the University of Virginia's hard-waiver health insurance program for the 2017-2018 academic year or who filed a waiver that was denied.
Please take a moment and review this email in its entirety. In an effort to ensure that you will meet the requirements for the 2017-2018 hard-waiver program, please take action to complete the University of Virginia's hard-waiver program.
If you currently have health insurance, you must complete a waiver application by February 5, 2018. You can complete the waiver by going to the site administered by Aetna Student Health at www.uvastudentinsurance.com and clicking the "Enroll/Waive" link. The waiver site is available to all students through February 5, 2018. We encourage you to access the site as soon as possible to file a waiver application. In order to complete a waiver application, you will need your University ID (UID). Your UID appears on your University photo ID card. If you do not know your UID, please go to www.virginia.edu/sis and click on "University ID Lookup" in the Help section.
The deadline to waive the University's sponsored health insurance is February 5, 2018. If you currently have a health insurance plan and it does not comply with the University hard-waiver program, you will be enrolled automatically in the Aetna Student Health plan and responsible for the spring premium ($1,666.00 U.S.). The University will post the charge on February 26, 2018, and payment will become due on March 31, 2018. Once enrolled, the coverage cannot be canceled, and the charge will not be removed from your University bill until paid in full. The plan provides coverage from January 1, 2018, through August 14, 2018.
If you would like to enroll in the Aetna Student Health plan, you may also do so at www.uvastudentinsurance.com. If you intend to enroll, you are urged to do so as soon as possible to ensure you have immediate access to health care under the Aetna plan.
International Students: Please Read
If you are an international student who filed a waiver application last year, whether it was accepted or rejected, you must file a new application for the 2017-2018 academic year.
- For questions regarding your status as an international student, please contact the International Studies Office at firstname.lastname@example.org or 434-982-3010.
- Students who are pursuing or hold permanent resident, refugee, asylee, or temporary protected status must submit appropriate documentation to the International Studies Office by February 20, 2018, to be exempt from the University's international hard-waiver requirements. This is a firm deadline. Students who fail to submit appropriate documentation by February 20, 2018, will be subject to the international hard-waiver requirements, instead of the domestic hard-waiver requirements.
Students Eligible for Graduate Health Insurance Subsidy: Please Read
If you are a new or returning student eligible for the University's graduate health insurance subsidy, you must still comply with the University's hard-waiver program by waiving the coverage or enrolling in the Aetna Student Health plan. Please follow these steps:
- Visit www.uvastudentinsurance.com, and click on "Enroll/Waive" link. The charge for the health insurance will appear on your SIS account; however, your graduate health subsidy award will offset this charge.
- If you plan to utilize the graduate health insurance subsidy, it is essential that you enroll no later than February 20, 2018.
While the online waiver application is administered by Aetna Student Health, the site has been pre-programmed to evaluate a student's waiver application pursuant to the specific coverage criteria set by the University. Aetna Student Health has no discretion in denying a waiver application.
Additional information on the hard-waiver program, including what constitutes comparable coverage, is posted on the Student Health website.
For questions regarding the hard-waiver process, please contact Student Health at email@example.com.
