Late last night or early this morning, an unknown individual or individuals painted anti-Semitic graffiti on a wall of the GrandMarc apartment complex. A photograph of the offensive graffiti appears below. The graffiti references language used in the Holocaust and is designed to target and intimidate individuals of the Jewish faith. Although the GrandMarc is private property, it also represents the home of a great many students. As a community, we categorically reject this type of hateful message, which is anathema to our shared values of inclusiveness and trust.
We appreciate the many students who reported this incident to the University using the Just Report It online system. Upon receiving these reports, we promptly engaged the Charlottesville Police, and we also notified the Grand Marc’s management. If you saw someone painting this graffiti or if you have other information that might be helpful to the ongoing investigation, please provide that information to us using Just Report It at www.virginia.edu/justreportit/bias.
