2017 World Water Events at UVA Keynote Speaker Ila Berman

Dean Ila Berman of the UVA School of Architecture will be delivering a keynote speech on “Territories and Urban Wetlands.” Dean Berman will address how we can build our cities and houses so that they help filter water properly and reduce the toxic quality of stormwater, a major source of water pollution. She will focus on the evolution of topographical, infrastructural, and urban systems in relation to fluid environments and the potential to rethink the relationship between land and water. Celebrating the release of the new Beauty and the Beast (2017) with Emma Watson and Dan Stevens. OFFScreen will be screening the original foreign French film from 1946. When a merchant is told that he must die for picking a rose from the Beast’s garden, his daughter offers herself in her father’s place. Chinese Classical Musical Performance

Join us for a special afternoon of traditional Chinese music presented by the V-Major Chinese Music Ensemble at UVA. Katy Ambrose Horn Concert

Katy Ambrose, horn, with John Maywood, piano, present a program of masterworks and modern classics. The performance includes Hindemith’s Sonata for horn and piano, Strauss’s Fantasie on Schubert’s Sehnsuchtswalzer, and Persichetti’s Parable VII for solo horn. Plus, the performance will feature two world premieres: Sarah DuBois’s Sonatina, and Laho, a piece written by UVA graduate student composer Rachel Devorah Trapp. UVA Students can reserve a free ticket in advance at the UVA Arts Box Office. Maxine Platzer Lynn Women’s Center at UVA: Global History of Black Girlhood Conference

The Global History of Black Girlhood Conference will gather an interdisciplinary network of scholars to frame the emerging field of black girl history.
