Virginia Athletics is excited to welcome you to Grounds. Students play an integral role in helping to create a great home-field advantage for all of our teams, and we look forward to hosting you at games throughout the year! Below you will find more information about attending games and the Sabre Points priority system.
Undergraduate and graduate students who pay the University Student Activity Fee receive complimentary admission to all home, regular-season athletics events with a valid student ID. Seating for students is general admission within the designated student sections. Admission for men’s basketball games is also free but requires a separate ticket. More information is detailed below.
Men’s Basketball Ticketing Procedures (UVAShots – UVA Student Hoops Online Ticketing System)
For each home men’s basketball game, students must request a ticket. Students can only request one ticket for personal use during the request period. If the number of requests exceeds the student ticket allotment, a lottery will be held to distribute tickets. In the lottery, all students who requested a ticket receive at least one entry. Students receive additional entries equal to their number of Sabre Points (i.e., 30 Sabre Points = 31 total entries in the lottery).
Once all tickets have been awarded for a game, entry groups are assigned based on Sabre Point priority. Students will enter John Paul Jones Arena in one of eight entry groups, as designated on the student ticket.
Students who have been awarded tickets and can no longer attend the game should cancel their ticket so another student may attend in their place. Tickets are not directly transferrable.
Tickets turned back in by students, or any remaining tickets available after the request period, can be claimed by students for personal use or purchased as student guest tickets (up to 3) during the On Demand period. The On Demand period opens the Wednesday after the request period ends.
The 2019-20 men’s basketball schedule is expected to be announced by the Atlantic Coast Conference in late September, and the student ticketing schedule will be published shortly thereafter.
- Sabre Points – What are they and why are they important?
Home, regular-season athletics events are worth one (1) Sabre Point and specially designated Sabre Rewards events, including all home football games, will be worth five (5) points. The full list of events can be found on UVAShots.com.
- To earn Sabre Points, students can:
- Scan their student ID at the specified entrance for baseball, women’s basketball, football, men’s and women’s lacrosse, and men’s and women’s soccer or their student ticket at men’s basketball.
- Sign in at the marketing table for non-ticketed sports – field hockey, softball, men’s and women’s squash, men’s and women’s swimming and diving, men’s and women’s tennis, track and field, volleyball and wrestling.
- Once all men’s basketball tickets have been allocated, students will be assigned entry groups in Sabre Point order from highest to lowest.
- Students can earn Sabre Points throughout the year and carry 20 percent of their total into the following year.
