Dear Members of the University Community:
It is with great sadness that I write to inform you of the passing of Logan Leemis, a rising fourth-year student in the Class of 2021. Logan passed away on June 24. He is described by his family as having “a kind and compassionate heart, particularly towards children and dogs.” Logan was a member of Hereford Residential College this past year (Norris House) and had planned to live in Hereford again in 2020-21.
A student in the McIntire School of Commerce (part of Block 5 during the 2019-20 academic year), Logan was involved in the Consulting Group at McIntire and the Sales and Trading Group at McIntire. McIntire staff recall Logan as “a very smart and dedicated student who held executive positions in all the clubs in which he participated.” Logan was also involved in the Advertising and Marketing Association at UVA and in Madison House, and he worked as a catering associate with UVA Dining. In his application to UVA, Logan noted the message he would paint on Beta Bridge was “Don’t wish for it, work for it.” Logan exemplified this in his time at the University.
In his home community of Williamsburg, Logan was an accomplished fife player in the Colonial Williamsburg Senior Fife and Drum Corps with his brother Mark for eight years, reaching the rank of Sergeant Major. Logan enjoyed bringing music to others. He also volunteered his time at the local animal shelter. Prior to arriving at the University in August 2017, Logan attended Williamsburg Christian Academy and Providence Classical School.
The loss of a classmate and fellow member of our community is always challenging, even during an academic recess. If you need support during this time, you may call Counseling and Psychological Services at 434-243-5150, 24 hours a day. Information about CAPS is available on the Student Health website. If you are a student at home for the summer, you may still call CAPS staff for assistance. Family and friends are also a good source of support.
Faculty and staff can find a similar resource through the Faculty and Employee Assistance Program by calling 434-243-2643 or by emailing the office via the FEAP website.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Logan’s parents, Larry and Jill Leemis of Williamsburg; his sister Lindsey and brother Mark (SEAS ’14); his extended family; and his many other friends, UVA classmates, and faculty whose lives he impacted in a positive way. A celebration of Logan’s life will be held at 1:00 p.m. tomorrow, June 30, at the Williamsburg Community Chapel, 3899 John Tyler Highway, Williamsburg, VA. Please keep Logan’s family and many friends in your thoughts.
