Vaccine Appointments Become Available to Students

April 9, 2021

Allen W. Groves, University Dean of Students

Dear Students:

Starting next week, you will be able to schedule a local appointment to receive the COVID-19 vaccine through coordination with UVA Health.  Beginning on Monday, April 12, students will receive personal invitations with a link to make their appointment.  These links are personalized and cannot be shared with others.

The vaccine will be given at the COVID Community Vaccination Center in the Seminole Square Shopping Center, 393 Hillsdale Drive, Charlottesville.

Please note:  This invitation is only for first doses of vaccine.  If you have received an initial dose of vaccine at another location, you must return to the same location for your second dose.

Appointment Times

Students must set an appointment in advance to attend the clinic.  No walk-ins will be accepted.

You will be able to self-schedule an appointment by going to the link provided and selecting from the list of available days and times.  If you have your own transportation, you may make an appointment for any of the times offered.

Students without transportation – first-year students in particular – should select an appointment time during the weekend of April 17 and 18, between the hours of 10 a.m. and 5:30 p.m.  By choosing a slot in this window you have plenty of time to catch a UTS shuttle, which will provide transportation from the Grounds to the vaccination site and back.

UTS Transportation

On April 17 and 18, from 9:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., UTS buses will pick up and return riders at the East Gate to Scott Stadium on Whitehead Road.   The destination sign on the buses will say “Special.”

Students should arrive at the bus stop 30 minutes before their appointment.  Only 20 passengers are permitted per bus.  Multiple buses will be running at regular intervals, approximately every 5-10 minutes.  To facilitate physical distancing at the bus stop, please do not arrive too far in advance.

Type of Vaccine

We are expecting the clinic to offer the Johnson & Johnson, Pfizer or Moderna vaccines.  You will not be given an option.  As you probably know, the Johnson & Johnson vaccine is “one and done.” If you receive the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine, you will need to return for the second shot at the same location.  You will be given the second appointment day and time prior to leaving the vaccination site.

What to Bring

  • Your UVA ID.

After Your Appointment

You will receive a vaccine card that you can use for proof of vaccination if needed for travel or other purposes.

Remember that vaccinated students are exempt from prevalence testing starting 14 days after their final dose.  Please continue testing until that date.

A record of your vaccine(s) from this site will be transmitted automatically into the Healthy Hoos portal.  Students who are vaccinated elsewhere should upload their vaccine records themselves to Healthy Hoos.

Please watch your email for the personal invitation coming to you on Monday and take advantage of this special opportunity to protect yourself and others. You can find up-to-date information at https://coronavirus.virginia.edu/vaccinations.

Sincerely,

Allen W. Groves
