Delayed Opening Assistance

Limited assistance is available to students in extenuating circumstances, as outlined below. This assistance is a two-week "bridge" for students, and includes housing and a small food stipend until the University opens on September 8.

The deadline to apply for housing has passed and we are no longer accepting applications.  Students can still apply for food stipend through September 8.

Students who require assistance beyond September 8 should apply for a CARES grant.

Who is eligible?

Undergraduate students who plan to live on Grounds, receive financial aid, and are full-time degree-seeking students who also meet one or more of the following:

  • You have no other housing for the fall other than your on-Grounds residence.
  • You will experience food insecurity as a result of the delayed opening.
  • You are at a safety risk by continuing to live in your current situation (including exposure to COVID-19 or imminent threat to personal safety or mental health).
  • You are an International student who is already in the United States or is already scheduled to return to Grounds during the delayed opening.

How will I receive my money/funds?

Students must sign up for direct deposit. Instructions to do this in SIS can be found on the Student Financial Services website.

Can I apply more than once?

Due to the short timeframe of the delayed opening, students may only apply one time. Please include as much information and documentation as you can in your initial application. Applications with insufficient information or documentation may be delayed in the review process.

When will I hear if I am awarded?

Applications will begin to be reviewed on Monday, August 10, 2020. We will review applications daily on a first-come, first-served basis and hope to notify students of their awards in a timely fashion.

What if I have an emergency need outside of the scope of the Delayed Opening Assistance?

The University has been distributing funds from the Federal Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act for eligible students who require emergency financial aid grants because of financial challenges due to COVID-19. The fall CARES application will go online Monday, August 10, 2020. Any student who does not qualify for the Delayed Opening Assistance can apply for CARES funding for technology needs or emergency food assistance for the fall semester.
