CARES Act Student Emergency Funding for Winter/Spring 2021

Since mid-March 2020, UVA has provided eligible students with emergency hardship support through the CARES Act Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund (HEERF) for expenses related to the disruption of on-Grounds operations due to COVID-19. Awards have included funding for technology, food support, household incidentals, and COVID-related health expenses.

The initial student allocation of CARES Act funding provided by the Department of Education in March 2020 has been fully distributed to eligible students. 

Additional funds were approved in late December via the CRRSAA Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund (HEERF II). We began awarding HEERF II funds to eligible students in late January 2021 and will continue to do so through the Spring term until these funds are exhausted. If you have not yet received emergency funding for the Spring term (awarded over winter break or after), you may apply via the CARES Act Emergency Funding Request - Spring 2021 application linked below. Netbadge login credentials are required.

Please note that we are not, at this time, providing additional funds via this application for students that have already received Spring 2021 emergency assistance.

A third round of funding was approved and signed into law on March 11th, 2021 under the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021. We are in the process of confirming the amount of funding available to students and regulatory requirements around awarding. Please continue to check this website for updated information.
