Employer Accounts and Events Manager

The University of Virginia Career Center (herein Career Center) fosters holistic career development and facilitates connections to educate, inspire confidence, and empower all students to launch professionally and personally fulfilling lives. The Employer Accounts and Events Manager (herein Manager) is a member of the Employer Relations Team in the Career Center. This team has responsibility for successful employer relations to include: acting as an ambassador to the employment community, maintaining ongoing contact with recruiters who have established relationships, developing new relationships with recruiters, and keeping abreast of developments in local, national, and international career trends as they pertain to the career interests of students and alumni.

Reporting to the Associate Director for Employer Relations, the Manager has primary responsibility for planning and executing all aspects of employer relationship management, on-Grounds interviews, and event management for employers in specified industries. The Manager will serve as the primary contact for providing information regarding these programs directly to interested recruiters and Community Builders and is also responsible for the logistics related to employer development programming.

Major Functions and Responsibilities

On-Grounds Interviewing Program (40%)

  • Collaborates with Employer Relations Team (peer Managers), to plan and execute the administrative functions of the On-Grounds Interview (herein OGI) program.  This includes facilitating communications with students and employers and establishing interview schedules. 
  • Serves as the primary on-site contact for specified industries to ensure positive experiences for employers while on-Grounds.  Administers OGI policies and procedures for recruiters and students.
  • Serves on team that manages both advance preparation of interview spaces and check-in processes for students and employers on interview days.
  • Coordinates virtual interviews and makes necessary technical arrangements.
  • Continuously updates OGI materials and webpages for use by students and employers.
  • Resolves situations with students and/or employers; works with Director of Employer Relations and Associate Director to minimize negative effects on the reputation of the OGI program.
  • Markets the OGI program and other recruiting opportunities to employers within specified industries.
  • Coordinates communications with Community Builders to market the OGI program to students and encourages participation.

University-Wide Recruiting Events / Employer Information Sessions / Virtual Career Fairs (40%)

  • Collaborates with Employer Relations Team (peer Managers), to plan and execute University-wide Career Fairs and events. These include, but are not limited to, Fall Job and Internship Fair, Spring Job and Internship Fair, Start-up Fair, April Career Fair, Graduate and Professional School Fair, Advisory Board Meetings, Recruiters’ Forum, and Recruiting Consortia. (Managers will be assigned primary responsibility for individual events based on specified industries, particular expertise in a field, and/or timing of events).
  • Participates in planning summits to establish event dates and ensure alignment with the Career Center and affiliate office calendars.
  • Executes comprehensive Project Management plan for assigned events.
  • Partners with the marketing team to design all marketing materials including website, event signage, materials, nametags, and employer packet information.
  • Serves as the primary point-of-contact for employers (within specified industries) seeking to host information sessions on-Grounds.    
  • Partners with Employer Relations Team and Community Builders to coordinate recruiter-focused programs that support the strategic focus of each Career Community.
  • Plans and implements U.Va.’s participation in Virtual Career Fair events and conducting employer outreach.
  • Collaborates with Business Operations to negotiate contracts, secure vendors, establish event rates and manage budgets.  Assists with collecting on past due invoices as needed.
  • Supervises student assistants assigned to support the OGI program, career fairs, employer information sessions, and job development.   

Employer Development, Reporting, Assessment, Technology, Other (20%)

  • Collaborates with Career Center Staff and Affiliates to ensure that new recruiters are connected with appropriate resources for recruiting U.Va. students.
  • Participates in University-wide Employer Relations Group meetings to discuss recruiting issues, develop policies, and keep abreast of current employment trends.
  • Actively participates in employer development and outreach efforts to support the growth of strategic employer relationships at the University and to solicit job opportunity listings.
  • Supports Assessment and Reporting efforts of the Employer Relations Team by providing reports and analysis as needed to the Director of Employer Relations, supervisor, Associate VP, Career Center staff and affiliate offices.
  • Maintains history of recruiting activities and reporting dashboard to assess programs and recruiting trends in specialized industries.
  • Develops and administers post-event surveys.  Analyzes and assesses event information to include:  attendance, budget, and student and employer evaluation data.  Delivers final event reports to the Director of Employer Relations and supervisor in timely manner.  Recommends opportunity for improvement and implements accordingly.
  • Collaborates across Employer Relations Team to manage universal employer relations database in Handshake.
  • Assists event coordinators in Affiliate Offices (i.e. Center for Engineering Career Development, McIntire School of Commerce, Curry School of Education, etc.) with creating events in Handshake.
  • Maintains Employer Relations pages on the Career Center website. 
  • Maintains the confidentiality of student personal and academic data, the unauthorized and indiscriminate release of which is constrained by either legislative guidelines or ethical standards; exercises good judgment in the release of information of any student information to employers, especially with regard to special student populations legally protected against discrimination or unfair treatment.
  • Supports solicitation of Hoos Career Guide advertisements and sponsors for programs, events and resources.
  • Actively participates in office-wide team meetings, projects and other office functions as needed. 
  • Performs other duties as assigned in order to promote the mission of the Career Center, Division of Student Affairs and the University.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, excellent presentation skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to organize and prioritize assignments
  • Proficient computer skills, especially database and Web-based technology and Microsoft Excel
  • Good communicator of intricate computerized programs and procedures
  • Demonstrated program and event coordination experience including goal-setting and budget development
  • Strong customer service experience in a fast-paced environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Minimum of two years of career services, student activities, human resources and/or event planning experience
  • Proven ability to work effectively with recruiters, alumni, faculty, and students
  • Supervisory experience
  • Experience with Handshake, Symplicity, or other CSM applications
  • Experience with Access and Data Visualization Tools
