Register to Vote - Virginia Deadline One Week from Today

October 10, 2016

My fellow students:

As you know, Election Day is in less than a month. For many of us, this is the first presidential election we have been eligible to vote in, giving us the incredible ability to shape the future of our country. If you are a U.S. citizen and at least 18 years old, your rights and responsibilities under our self-governing democracy include voting.

Message to Students Potentially Affected by Hurricane Matthew

October 7, 2016

Dear Students:

We have been monitoring the news about Hurricane Matthew. Since you are from one of the states or areas in the Caribbean that is feeling the most impact from this devastating storm, we wanted to reach out with a message of support.

We hope the storm is having a minimal impact on your family and friends, but if you are being affected in some way and need assistance, please do not hesitate to let us know. Being away from family and friends as they are experiencing such unsettledness and uncertainty no doubt creates a degree of personal distress for you.

An Important Message from University Dean of Students Allen Groves

September 28, 2016

Dear Students:

I know your time is valuable as midterm exams are occurring, but I respectfully ask you to take a few minutes to read my message that follows.

On Monday, the publication Inside Higher Education ran a story entitled, "Epidemic of Racist Incidents," noting that such incidents on American college campuses "have multiplied at the very beginning of the academic year." No university is immune to this ugly development.

Dear Students:

Today marks the official opening of the Rotunda. If you have not had a chance yet to visit the newly renovated Rotunda, I hope you will do so soon. It has been beautifully restored, and it is available to each of us to treasure and enjoy. Many of the changes reflect the desire to make the Rotunda as open and as accessible to students as possible.

Between now and mid-January, I will be filling in for Pat Lampkin and serving as UVA's Acting Vice President and Chief Student Affairs Officer. Pat is taking a brief, but well-deserved, sabbatical from her day-to-day duties. You may be interested in reading the recent Cavalier Daily article about Pat's plans while she is away this fall.
