My name is Brendan Nigro and I am the student representative to the Board of Visitors (BOV). The BOV is the highest governing body at the University, responsible for carrying out its long-term planning.
I hope that you have had a pleasant first couple of weeks here at UVA! Now that you have started to settle into life on Grounds, I would like to invite you to apply to one of the many Student Council committees that seek to promote the rights, opportunities, and general welfare of students. I have found my time as a member of Student Council deeply rewarding, as I worked with students and administrators alike to craft policy for the prosperity of our university community. I highly encourage you to lend your skills and perspective to further these efforts.
Dear Students from North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia:
As we continue to closely watch the evolving models and forecasts for Hurricane Florence, I am writing because our records show your hometown is located in one of the areas projected to be affected the most by this category 4 storm.
Even if you live somewhere beyond the East Coast of the United States, you likely have heard about the impending approach of Hurricane Florence. Units across the University are actively engaged in preparing for this powerful storm. I am writing to tell you about those preparations and to let you know how you can receive updates in the coming days.
Welcome to Grounds from UVA Athletics! The purpose of this email is to inform you how you can attend home Virginia Athletics events during the 2018-19 academic year as well as to explain the Sabre Points system and its impact on admission to home men's basketball games.
Dear Graduate and Professional Students:
As Dean of Students for all schools of the University, I begin this message with a warm welcome to those of you who are new to UVA. While you will be spending considerable time in your school or program, I want to acknowledge you are part of the larger University community. We look forward to the times when you can join in activities and initiatives that bring us together as the UVA family. As someone who took a graduate degree from the University, I certainly appreciate the many demands on your time.
I begin this message with a warm welcome to our new students. We look forward to introducing you to the UVA family and all the opportunities that await you as a member of this special community. I've enjoyed meeting you and your parents over the summer, and I am anticipating the many ways in which you will contribute to the University and the surrounding community.
This is a reminder that you need to take action to complete the health insurance waiver. According to our records, you are a new or returning student who has yet to take action under the University of Virginia's hard-waiver health insurance program for the 2018-2019 academic year, or you filed a waiver that was denied.
With Move-In Weekend quickly approaching, I wanted to write with some last-minute reminders. We are looking forward to the arrival of your daughters and sons along with the start of a new academic year. It's an exciting time for you and your new student as well as for us.
The Housing & Residence Life website is the best source of information about move-in. What to bring, what not to bring, move-in times and locations, parking tips – all of these details and more are available on the website.
