Dear Students:

It has been wonderful gathering in community with so many of you over the past semester. From Opening Convocation on the Lawn in late August to Lighting of the Lawn on Dec. 1, it has been an honor to see students leading these events and bringing everyone together.

We wish you the best of luck as you finish up the semester. Please remember, resources around safety and well-being remain available to you, whether you are staying here or going home or elsewhere. Online mental health resources, for example, are accessible through TimelyCare around the clock and from any point in the world.

If you are staying in Charlottesville after exams end, please check the Winter Break webpage for a summary of hours for various offices and services.

Several hundred of you are completing your studies at UVA. Congratulations on your graduation this month! Please plan to be back to walk the Lawn the weekend of May 17-19. Final Exercises on Saturday will celebrate graduates in the College and Graduate School of Arts & Sciences, the School of Education and Human Development, and the Frank Batten School of Leadership and Public Policy. On Sunday, we will celebrate graduates in all the other schools.

On Jan. 16, the day before undergraduate courses begin, we will welcome Kenyon Bonner, our new vice president and chief student affairs officer. He is very excited about joining the UVA community and being an advocate for students.

Until we all gather again for the start of second semester, please be safe and be sure to find time for relaxation and rejuvenation. We hope you will also reflect on your achievements of the semester and look ahead to your aspirations for 2024.

With best wishes,

Christopher P. Holstege
Interim Vice President and Chief Student Affairs Officer

Cedric Bernard Rucker
Interim Senior Associate Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students
