Second-Year Fall

  • Application and selection process. See the Apply page for more details on the application and selection process.

  • Once selected, the Batten School will enroll students into Leadership In Practice (LPPL 4225), a three-credit course. The class will be taught on Mondays from 5:00-7:30 PM.

  • End of Semester Reception

Second-Year Spring

  • LPPL 4225 course

  • The hiring process for the Summer Institute

  • Paired with MLI peer mentor.

  • Leadership workshops

Summer Institute

Third-Year

  • Students enroll in a Project Implementation course in the fall.

  • Fellows are assigned their faculty/staff Mentors. Fellows are required to meet with their mentor at least once a month.

  • Social and educational programs, such as Carter's Mountain Sunset Series, bowling, community service activities,  guest speakers, etc.

  • MLI Mentor and Mentee Reception in the fall.

  • In the fall, Fellows are expected to help with the recruitment and selection of the incoming MLI cohort.

  • In the spring, Fellows are beginning their Meaningful Engagement

Fourth-Year 

  • Meaningful Engagement  reviewed by MLI Staff

  • Career preparation and Life after college workshops with the University Career Center

  • MLI recruitment and helping select the incoming MLI cohort.

  • Leadership Beyond UVA workshops

  • Opportunity to work as a Teacher Assistant for the LPPL 4225 course.

  • End-of-the-year reception for graduating student leaders hosted by the Vice President of Student Affairs
